A tragicomic story with a hopeful ending

The bar singer Evy Mearová returns home from an alcohol rehabilitation center, where she lives with her friend Tobby, who absolutely refuses to acknowledge her aging, having won the title of beauty queen in school years ago, and with her friend Jimmy, an unsuccessful actor who claims he's the oldest beginner in the entire theatre industry. Of course, this life also includes Evy's ten years younger lover, guitarist Lu Tenner, who never had a roof of his own. In this company, supported by love and humor, the only sane twig is Polly, the immature daughter of Evy Mearová, who is more mature than her mother and all her friends. With her courageous nature, Polly shows her mother the right way to live. Crumbs from the Gingerbread is a profound and touching comedy and one of the best plays by the classic American comedy writer Neil Simon. "Laughter through tears" - this could also be the name of this comedy.

“What I enjoy about the character of Evy Mearová and why I love her so much is her sharp humor and never-ending desire to start again. Despite the life's troubles she got into by her own fault, she is a very fragile and sensitive person filled with love, and above all, she loves fun and her friends for whom she would do anything and is full of life. I'm very grateful for this role because her soul is beautiful, even though sometimes it seems that her seventeen-year-old daughter is more mature than she is. It's a beautiful deep story of a woman from the artistic world, and the audience shares all of her passions and ups and downs. They can laugh and cry with her. It's a humorous and very touching story. I'm thrilled that for the role of Evy Mearová, I have been honored with the Thalia Award,” says Simona Stašová.
