Ivo Šmoldas, a well-known Czech poet, translator, scriptwriter, cultural publicist, editor, publisher, and host, was born on July 23, 1955, in Prostějov.
He studied Czech and English at the Faculty of Arts of Charles University and subsequently worked at the Český spisovatel publishing house. Here he started as an editor of classical literature and later poetry, eventually rising to senior managerial positions. In the 1980s, he contributed extensively to various literary magazines and published several collections of poetry and non-fiction books. In the 1990s, he briefly served as the director of the Columbus publishing house and later co-founded the private publishing company Apsida.
Currently, he works as a freelance artist. He translates from Slovak and English, collaborates with radio and television, and occasionally appears on Czech Television as a host of cultural-themed programs. Recently, he has become widely known to audiences as a sought-after host and popular guest on various TV shows and entertainment programs, renowned for his quick-witted and humorous responses.
